About the Project
Hume Valley School embarked on a Community Partnership Project in mid 2015 – 2016. An Action Team of school and community members worked together on the objectives of the project which has been successfully completed. Hume Valley School is committed to continuing the work of the Action Team model which the school will continue to chair and facilitate.
The 2 key objectives for this project include:
- 1. To increase the Parental and Family Engagement and
- 2. Create opportunities for students to engage in work related activities and community participation
Some of the Action Team Model partnership developments include:
Broadmeadows Bunnings
- Community BBQ – The School and Bunning’s in Broadmeadows have successfully trialled the opportunity for the school students to run Community BBQs. This project has developed into an ongoing partnership. The school now organise and run Monday and Thursday Bunning’s Community BBQs. This provides students the opportunity to gain work related skills and learning outcomes that meets the requirements of their Foundation VCAL program.
- Work Experience – In 2015 and 2016 two students had the opportunity to undertake work experience in the store. This provided students with the ability to learn on the job, employability based skills.
Hume City Council
- Strategy of Student Engagement – Council is currently developing a strategy for students to engage in a diverse range of work-related experiences across the many Departments within Council. Some of the activities will commence in Term 1 of next year and are included in the following:
- work experience / volunteering
- mentoring of students
- resume workshops
